The largest bank in Europe by total assets ($3.2 trillion), HSBC serves 41 million customers across 56 global markets and is the world leader in trade finance.
The largest workstream in the programme. I designed high-fidelity prototypes and UI systems to take HSBC's everyday banking platform from legacy desktop-only pages to a fully responsive experience across desktop, tablet and mobile. This covered the full breadth of everyday banking: payment and transfer flows, loan configurators, account dashboards, and supporting journeys. At the time, responsive banking at this scale was still rare among Tier 1 banks. The components I designed fed directly into the shared atomic library used across all products in the programme.
Designed for HSBC Expat, the bank's international banking service for customers living and working abroad. The product had specific requirements around multi-currency accounts, international transfers, and tax-efficient savings, all within a regulatory context that differed from the core UK platform.
One of several products designed during the programme. A property and neighbourhood discovery app combining crime and school data heat maps, live property listings from Zoopla, income and demographic data, social feeds, and an integrated mortgage calculator. A complex multi-source data product designed to feel simple and personal.
The core everyday banking platform redesigned from legacy desktop-only pages to a fully responsive experience. The same flows, from payments to account management, adapted across desktop, tablet and mobile for the first time at HSBC.
While the core everyday banking redesign was the primary workstream, the Neighbourhoods app is shown here as a visual example of the product design work. It brought together crime data, school ratings, transport links, property prices, and a mortgage calculator in one onboarding-to-decision flow.
HSBC established the rigour that made everything else possible: redesigning everyday banking at global scale, from legacy desktop pages to fully responsive experiences, under compliance and brand constraints from day one. That discipline, built across the core banking platform, HSBC Expat, and the Neighbourhoods app, underlies a decade of progression to VP level at JPMorgan Chase.
